Hey All! We’re currently playing putt putt in Buffalo, WY after SLAYING a set at the Big Horn Mountain fest. Loser of each hole drinks a shot of Makers Mark.

Aside from that, there is a competition in Knoxville, TN to see who gets to play with us on July 17th. We’re not completely sold on the fact that playing with us is worth competing over, but it’s pretty bad ass none the less and we can’t wait to see who we have the honor of sharing the stage with. If you’re interested in competing, here are the details:

1. Show up to sign-up 7:30 this coming Monday night. If you can’t be there, you can’t play! There are 14 spots avail to perform and it’s first come first serve. If more than 14 performers show up at 7:30 there will be a lottery.

2. Tell your friends to come and vote for you. Yes, it’s audience voting plus there are 3 professional music industry judges TBA at the show.

3. Voting audience members must be there from 8-10 in order to turn in a ballot. Ballots will be collected at 10 and the winner announced after the featured performer NATALIE PRASS!

Regardless of the outcome, we’re totally stoked to be back in the SOUTH EAST! Please check our schedule to see if we’re playing near you.

- BAS

BAS has had a couple fantastic festival appearances in the State of Colorado, but we have only just begun to fight! Coming up in July we’ll be headed all over the place, from Wisconsin to Wyoming all the way to South Carolina.

We’re especially pumped to make it back to the Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Big Horn Mountain Festival in Wyoming, the Double Door in Charlotte, and Knuckleheads in Kansas City. Head on over to our TOUR page and see if you made it onto the list! If not, we’ll catch you next time!

In the mean time, check out this video from last year’s Folk House appearance in Omaha. Neil looks about a year skinnier, for sure!

Hey Everyone!

Check out this great article written by Cory O’Brien from the Boulder Weekly. It’s the coming of age story of BAS as a band and the evolution of the music into what it is now.

“When we started out, we weren’t really invested in the band,” admits Keim. “We would play anything. But eventually, we realized that by being the people who would play anything, we weren’t really doing anything right.”

As the guys have aged, they have found the beauty of simplicity in their last two albums and created their own original sound. In comparing their most recent albums, O’Brien stated, “Champion of Disaster strips things down even further, trading the dizzying energy and old-time spirit of genre-hoppers like Punchline or 2008’s The Caged Bird for subtle moodiness and emotional punch. Champion of Disaster is a grounded, beautiful morsel of indie-folk that finds Boulder Acoustic Society honing in on a sound and then exploring the possibilities within that sound’s framework.”

Is Champion of Disaster the turning point for the band’s career? Read the full article by clicking the link below to find out.

So hopefully now it will appear in google image search and we’ll no longer show up to a gig with a promo photo from 5 years ago. I mean that with all due respect.

We’re going to be doing a neat little thing that helps us offset our touring costs a bit while promoting our friends’ music. The way it works is we’ll be giving updates about the incredible bands we play with across the country. We’ll post a link to their music on our pages and sites. Then if you like them as much as we do and decide to purchase their music, then we get a small commission from it…… which puts gas in our tank. Mostly, we just want to help promote all the great bands that we hear on a daily basis. Here are the bands we’ll be playing with this weekend at the Gorge Uke Fest:

Well 2010 is behind us now and we’ll go ahead and tack that up in the successful year column. Our 6th release “Champion Of Disaster” is still receiving domestic and international radio attention and our buddies at Piedmont Talent and working hard to fill our 2011 Schedule. We already have more than 30 shows scheduled in 11 states for the upcoming year, and haven’t even really dug into booking the “tour season” yet.

There’s already talk about a new album for us this year….. A LIVE album…… Recorded here in DENVER, at a small 100 seat performing arts center…… would YOU want to be a part of that? Email Us to reserve your seats. Date and ticket prices are TBD.

In the mean time, check out our upcoming shows! The next one is in DENVER at the Larimer Lounge with Kal Cahoone and Elliot Moonshine & the Ghost.

We just got back from a two week tour in the hot and humid South East. We had the pleasure of visiting old friends and making new ones in Bristol, TN, Charlotte, NC, Thomas, WV, Aberdeen, NC, Frankfort, KY, Floyd, VA, and Baltimore, MD.

The highlights of the trip would have to have been the the grueling ping pong tournament at the Rooster’s Wife between Aller, Neil, and Aaron, and of course Floyd Fest. At Floyd Fest we had the honor of playing on the same stage as Levon Helm, Old Crow Medicine Show, Deer Tick, Low Anthem, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and Joe Pug.

A Big Big shout out to all of our friends who played amazingly kick ass shows at the Festival. Rising Appalachia blew us away with their stunning beauty, soulful music, and tribal face paint. The Two Man Gentleman Band had us in tears of laughter as usual. The Holy Ghost Tent Revival added a trumpet player and melted too many faces to count. Christabelle And The Jons and Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade made people weak at the knees with their gorgeous voices and tasty playing. The boys from the Wiyos inspired us to go practice more so we can one day be half as good as them.

Now on to the shameless promotion……

We’ll be playing at the
Walnut Room this Sunday, August 1st,
with Fishtank Ensemble. The Fishtank Ensemble is kinda of like if you went on a backpacking trip in Eastern Europe with a gallon of 5 Hour Energy Drink and all you did was go do dance clubs. They do an astonishing unique blend of Romanian, Gypsy jazz, Flamenco, Balkan, Turkish and Tango. We hope to see you there!

Hey there Ladies and Gents!

We just got through tracking at Macy Sound Studios with Jefferson Hamer. Here’s some picture’s Aaron took with his hipstamatic application on his iPhone, because regular pictures are not as cool.

We’re doing well with our fundraising right now, but we’re still short the dollars for mixing and printing. We need about $2,000 to really make this project happen. Thanks so much to everyone that got involved, and if you haven’t yet, head on over to our sponsorship page and check out the options. We’ve got pre-sales and lots of other goodies, including a ukulele brunch(in which we show up at your house and cook you a delicious breakfast and then serenade you with our ukuleles). So check it out!
